Dr. Matrona Giakoumis serves as Assistant Professor in the Surgery Department at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine (NYCPM) at Touro University. She specializes in both pediatric and adult foot and ankle reconstructive surgery. She has a diverse background in clinical practice, education, and global health, and is committed to advancing the field through her expertise, mentorship, and service.
Dr. Giakoumis completed fellowship training in pediatric and adult foot and ankle reconstructive surgery in Atlanta, Georgia after she completed her residency at Dekalb Medical Center in Decatur, Georgia. She earned her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine, following her undergraduate studies at Fordham University in New York, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Natural Sciences.
Currently, Dr. Giakoumis is a Board Member of The Podiatry Institute, an educational organization that provides continuing medical education, conferences, and cadaver courses. She has educated podiatric medical students and physicians at all levels of training and experience. In addition to her academic role, she serves as Chief of Podiatry at Lincoln Hospital, where she performs surgeries and oversees patient care.
Outside of her clinical and academic responsibilities, Dr. Giakoumis is passionate about global health. She has participated in medical mission trips to Honduras, El Salvador and Nepal, where she provided much-needed surgical care to underserved communities.
