Touro’s New York College of Podiatric Medicine Receives Specialized Accreditation Status
The Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME) Grants NYCPM a Maximum 8-Year Accreditation Term, Highlighting the University’s Quality, Rigor, and Commitment to Excellence
The specialized accreditation status for Touro University’s New York College of Podiatric Medicine (NYCPM) has been extended for a maximum eight-year term and is good through 2034, Touro President Dr. Alan Kadish announced today. Institutional Specialized Accreditation is through The Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME). Institutional Accreditation is through MSCHE.
“This achievement reflects Touro University’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence and to preparing the next generation of podiatric physicians with the knowledge, skills, and compassion needed to serve their communities,” said Touro President Dr. Alan Kadish.
Accreditation is a non-governmental process conducted by representatives of institutional and specialized agencies. As conducted in the United States, accreditation focuses on the quality of institutions of higher and professional education and on the quality of educational programs within institutions. Two forms of accreditation are recognized: one is institutional accreditation, and the other is specialized accreditation. Institutional accreditation concerns itself with the quality and integrity of the total institution, assessing the achievement of the institution in meeting its own stated mission and goals/objectives. Specialized accreditation is concerned with programs of study in professional or occupational fields.
“Achieving eight years is indeed a testament to the entire team at NYCPM and Touro University,” said Dr. Michael Trepal, dean and vice president for academic affairs. “The yearlong self-study process, which was validated by the recent comprehensive site visit this past February, subjected us to a demanding and thorough review, which we are thrilled to have passed without any areas of non-compliance.”
Touro University’s New York College of Podiatric Medicine looks forward to continuing to provide its students with a rigorous academic experience and to graduating the finest podiatric physicians ready to make an impact and improve patient outcomes.
